Our Process
Whether you’ve got 3 acres to work with or just a rooftop, our outdoor living space process makes sure we maximize the potential of your backyard space. Scroll below to learn just how easy our process is, no matter where in the world you live.
Step 1
At the beginning of the design phase, you’ll work closely with our designer. He/she will lay out an outdoor living space that incorporates your ideas and visions for the perfect backyard oasis. They will evaluate your needs, make suggestions, and recommend materials. The designer can answer any design or cost questions you may have. During the design consultation, we will measure your property. We’ll review it for deed and designated Historic District restrictions if any, and other requirements before an outdoor living space can occur. Then, we will discuss what your city or HOA requires before we start on your outdoor living space design.
Step 2
Upon completion of the design phase, our outdoor living designer will prepare a full set of construction plans. They will also prepare 3D renderings of your project. 3D renderings bring your outdoor living space to life. It allows for a visual and interactive discussion. You’ll have the opportunity to review multiple versions of the design from different angles. Consequently, you’ll be impressed, guaranteed!
Step 3
Our engineering partners draft the plans for your approved outdoor living space. The talented engineers will include all drawings, layouts, and technical specifications as well as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and civil plan sets as part of the permit application. While paperwork is being filled out and plans organized and printed, you will be able to breathe a little.
Step 4
Once you submit your project to the Department of Building and Safety for review, the permit application undergoes three reviews. 1) A zoning ordinance to verify requirements of the city zoning ordinance, 2) Grade review work related to the property including drainage, and, 3) Building plan review which covers the requirements that apply to the project.
Step 5
When we acquire the permits, we’ll be ready to bring your project to life. Accordingly, a project manager will be on hand for any questions you might have. The construction team will walk you through the outdoor living space. Thus, if you approve the layout, we’ll start excavation. If your project includes a pool, spa, pond, or waterfall, the installation includes steel reinforcement and pre-gunite, plumbing, gunite, masonry, and tile.
Step 6
In the last phase, the Start-up Process, a service professional will be on-site to ensure that the outdoor living space reflects the approved layout. He/she will add any finishing touches to complete the project. The service professional will make proper adjustments to the equipment and balance the chemicals in the project water to ensure that your pool, spa, or waterfall operates properly. A City Inspector will conduct a final inspection before we hand over the project to you. The City Inspector and the Construction Manager will walk the property together and sign off on the project as “Complete”. Following the final inspection, our Construction Manager will walk through the project with you. Thus, you’ll learn to work any equipment, advise you about any care needed, and answer any questions you have.
Step 7
Your outdoor living space has been completed. Therefore, it’s time you enjoy it with friends and family.
